Fifty-six thousand condoms shared in Eko 2012

As part of its commitment to fighting the dreaded disease (AIDS/HIV), the IOC distributes hundreds of thousands of condoms to athletes at the Olympic Games.
The IOC in 2004, signed a memorandum of understanding with the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS) in Lausanne,Switzerland, agreeing to use its leverage to help combat the dreaded AIDS/HIV.
Eko 2012 Sports Festival has not been different as the medical sub-committee has distributed thousands of condoms to athletes, coaches and technical officials participating in the ongoing 18th National Sports Festival.
As at Monday, checks revealed that over 35,000 male and 21,000 female condoms have been given out at the various centres including Rowe Park Sports Complex, YABATECH, UNILAG, the National Stadium.
From the Sydney Olympics to London 2012, even at the All Africa Games, what has become synonymous with the gathering of thousands of youths from different backgrounds, competing for honours for self and country- or in this case, state- for almost two weeks is the temptation of creating bonds that go beyond mere friendships.
